According to proclamation number 14/92 this department is bestowed to issue and supervise the implementation of directives for the registration and control of vehicles using the road. It give license and regulate persons and enterprises engaged in commercial Road transport linking two or more than two regional governments.
It encourage the formation of public commercial road transport associations.
During emergency time it mobilizes commercial road transport vehicles to areas where their Services are needed. The department is used to prepare and give seminars to promote the capacity of regional Transport Bureau Officials and to leaders engaged in transport associations and companies.
It also coordinates and undertakes studies to help and develop efficiency in the transport operation, and makes formal contact with related offices and organization.
The department has under it two divisions,
